Sami Zayn received a huge ovation from Montreal fans on SmackDown last night. Zayn competed with Sheamus, Happy Corbin, Madcap Moss, and Ricochet in a Fatal 5-Way match to become the #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
However, the match was won by Sheamus and he will face Gunther for the IC Title at WWE Clash at the Castle on September 3rd in Cardiff, Wales.
After losing the Fatal 5-Way match, Sami Zayn was involved in Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre’s brawl on SmackDown where Zayn eat a claymore kick from McIntyre on behalf of The Tribal Chief. The show ended with Drew McIntyre standing tall in the ring.
After SmackDown went off the air, Kevin Owens came to the ring and met Sami Zayn. Owens stated that he would’ve never gotten into WWE without Zayn. Then fans at the arena started chanting “Thank You Sami”
Later, Riddle came to the ring and told Owens and Zayn that they should hug. After refusing it a couple of times, both Owens and Zayn hugged each other with a huge pop from the fans.
