Earlier this year, Buddy Matthews made his AEW debut and later joined Malakai Black’s House of Black faction. Black recently got his release from AEW and seems like Matthews is following in the footsteps of Black.
Buddy Matthews competed in a Tag Team match on AEW at AEW Rampage: Grand Slam, where he teamed up with Brody King to face Darby Allin and Sting. House of Black lost the match and Mathews was written off from AEW television after a segment with the Great Muta.
This past Saturday, Buddy Matthews competed at Fight Life Pro Wrestling. Matthews addressed the crowd following the match and stated that he is taking a time off from pro wrestling.
I appreciate that. Unfortunately, tonight, I’m going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. As everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately. As all the members of the house, I’m speaking for them all, we want to thank you all for being members of the house. Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later.- H/T Ringside News

Buddy Matthews’ situation is very similar to Malakai Black’s. However, there’s no report about whether Matthews requested his release from AEW.
UPDATE: Malakai Black explained his AEW contract status
Malakai hasn’t been released, constantly publishing made up stuff. He called out the dirt sheets and still you post rubbish.
