D Generation X celebrated its 25th anniversary in WWE on the October 10th episode of Monday Night RAW. All the members of the group appeared on the show except Billy Gunn.
Billy Gunn is currently working in AEW and he receives huge reactions from the crowd in AEW just like he was in the Attitude Era. Many fans expected Gunn to be a part of DX’s 25th-anniversary celebration. However, WWE and AEW did not come to an agreement.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that AEW President Tony Khan gave his approval for Billy Gunn to attend the DX’s 25th-anniversary celebration under one condition. Meltzer stated that Khan wanted to mention that Gunn comes from AEW. If WWE agreed to mention AEW then Khan will let Gunn appear on WWE television.
Earlier this year, Mickie James competed at the women’s Royal Rumble Match and WWE acknowledged her as Impact Wrestling Women's Champion. However, in Billy Gunn’s case, both parties were unable to come to an agreement.
According to Fightful Select, “WWE had went as far as to prepare travel in Billy Gunn’s name, thinking that it was a real possibility. One of the possible solutions we’re told was a lower third graphic with an AEW logo, but WWE didn’t seem too keen on making that a reality.”
